~No Rock & Roll Fun.~

I went to an all-ages show last night. Showed up late, paid my four bucks to get in, and settled in to see a little over two hours of music. I can’t remember the bands names, nor do I care as the bands aren’t what this rant is about. The two Bands I saw were both pretty damn good, and I’d go see them again. What I’m going to rant about is this crappy town, and the people who live here. Hurrah.

I’ve noticed that over the last few years the music “scene” in this area has been steadily getting worse-fewer and fewer and fewer bands passing through, nowhere near as many live shows, etc. And this is strange, as the town and surrounding locales are growing steadily. I’d assume, perhaps wrongly, that the “scene” would grow with the population.  But nooo, it doesn’t. So when I heard (through word of mouth, as I didn’t see any flyers anywhere-more on this later) that there was going to be a show featuring several bands in Redmond I decided I’d try to make it just to support the “scene”. So instead of hanging out in Portland-a real city-on a Friday night and be assured of seeing some good shows I drove back to C.O. to catch an all ages one and feel old.  As I walked across the lot I noticed that there were probably 30 assorted kids hanging outside smoking, talking, whateva. Taking this as a sign it was really crowded inside my spirits were lifted. I stopped and chatted with a few folks who recognized my geeky ass from the comic store and proceeded to head inside only to realize that the 3 dozen kids outside were the main bulk of the audience. Whoa buddy, that was sad. I’ve literally seen more people packed into a 400 sq foot garage with a band than there was in the entire friggin hall. How depressing, but I figured it was due to the lack of promotion for the show. Then the band started. Now, I’m not Jojo the mosh pit boy, but I’ll happily bob my head to a good beat, and at least clap for a band, even if it’s a crappy band. That’s what you do. But maybe not, as there were a lot of folks who didn’t do a damn thing. At all. Nothing. They’d stand there. And when the song ended they’d stare and wait for the next song, no clapping, no whistles, no yelling, nada, zero, zilch. What the fuck Cooter Brown? Where’s the support? Maybe I’m being too harsh, or I’m too old and don’t understand the fancy ways of today’s youth, but shit people! You don’t have to be fucking jaded all the goddamn time. Jeezus I’m Captain-fucking-Jaded, and I was more into the bands than some of the people there. At least the bands were cool about it, even though it must be depressing as fuck to look out into a tiny crowd and see that they're not into it.

Shit, I've lost my will to rant. More later.
