8/28/02-DBX (Dave Brockie Experience), Lazy American Workers, Myiasis, The ConfedeRats [The Domino Room, Bend]

Ahh, Shows. We've had quite a few good shows roll through Bend, most of them have been straight up punk, hardcore, or any of the other labels applied to punk, so I was looking forwards to this one. The ConfedeRats opened for this show, and as usual did a fine job of representing the punk rock. The local kids who showed up to see the Rats seemed rather disturbed by the older metal guys who wished to mosh, and more than one of them retreated to the rear to watch. The Rats performed as well as always, and paved the way for the next band-Myiasis, from Seattle. I'm not a huge metal fan, and even less of the death-metal, and these guys were a little too metal for my tastes. I hid on the balcony and enjoyed watching the metal guys in the audience head bang and mosh around. (Metal dudes have such pretty hair.) From the crowds reaction Myiasis must have been pretty cool, I'm just not much into their style. At this point I ran into an old friend and left to go talk with them and missed ALL of the Lazy American Workers. Not a clue what to say about them, their sound, or the crowds reaction. Next up was DBX. DBX, if you don't know, stands the Dave Brockie Experience. This band is a side project of Mr. Brockie, who's perhaps more famous as his alter ego: "Oderus Urungus" from the insane group GWAR. He's joined in this band with two other members of GWAR on guitar and drums: Mike Derks "Balsac the Jaws of Death" and Brad Roberts "Jizmak da Gusha". The guys shed their usual costumes and simply play and have a good time, performing both DBX tunes as well as some GWAR songs. DBX songs are full of silly humor about everyone's favorite subjects, like masturbation, how much the South sucks, and having sex with animals. Family Entertainment at it's finest. These guys can play. They did a great job hammering out their songs, had a wonderful interaction with the crowd, and were really entertaining. This is easily one of the best bands to roll through Bend lately.
