~4/08/02-Two Shows. Read on.~
Two shows this weekend. Basic reviews as I'm lazy. First up was Kaddisfly, Dualesc, and Hydroponic at the Domino Room on the 6th. I showed up late and missed a good chunk of the first band, Hydroponic. I'm not a super huge fan of their 311ish sound, but Hydroponic is a pretty decent band. When you consider the age of its members it's a great band. I know people older than all of these kids combined that can't play anywhere near as good. They put on a decent show, and the crowd in attendance seemed to be having a great time. Dualesc was next, and if their sound would have been a bit better I would have been much more impressed. I don't know whether their sound guy just sucked, or if they were having equipment problems but they just didn't sound good at all to my ears. I hate to be a downer and be the opposing view to one of my fellow Bendites opinions, but they sounded bad. I know it's not just me as a few other people left because of the sound. Not a good sign kids. Not much else to say there. I had to leave early to go to bars, so I left before Kaddisfly started playing. Oh well, it's not like I won't see them some other time.
Next
on Sunday the 7th was Dead
Letter Auction, Two
The Front, Inch High, and Dislodged at the Boys & Girls Club in Redmond.
Having never been to anything at the RDM Boys & Girls Club I wasn't really
sure what to expect. Having never heard any of the bands didn't help put me at
ease either. But for $4 I really don't care much. Dislodged played first, and
perhaps could use a bit more practice. Isn't politeness wonderful? Next up was
Inch High. These guys are decent, although I think that the sound could have
been way better. They played a mix of their own stuff, with a few cover songs
mixed in. (Including "I Think We're Alone Now" and I wonder if they
think Tiffany
wrote it or Tommy James. And
speaking of Tiffany I find it funny that she was in Playboy. Is that a sign of a
blossoming musical career or what?) Two The Front played next, and I was
surprised. They were different than the standard stuff I see from local bands.
They played what'd most likely be classified as Screamo, but without a drum kit.
Instead they had a pair of bongo drums. Don't laugh yet, it was actually pretty
cool. Again, sound problems, including the singer/bass player Kyle
getting shocked from the microphone. I look forward to hearing them play when
they've got some better sound backing them up. Dead Letter Auction was next, and
they made the show. Their sound was great, they played really really well, and
are one of the better bands I've seen locally in some time. It's too bad that
the turnout for the show was so small. I bet they had less than 30 kids total
show up including bands. That's got to be a bummer for bands who are touring. And when 60% of
the audience hugs the walls it must just suck. And yes, I am a hypocrite as I do
the same thing most of the time. But when a band is ON and sounds good and you
enjoy their stuff you have to support them and get up front. At any rate if you weren't there you missed a great band from Indiana
who'll probably NEVER play in the area again. Good job you lazy fuckers. Way to
support the scene.
