I had to work, and unfortunately missed the opening band for this house show-Two the Front. I managed to make it right as Salem's LUM were setting up. They proceeded to kick ass. Melodic hardcore, screaming vocals, really energetic performances, especially from the lead singer Scott, who managed to chip a tooth on his mic during one frantic song, but this didn't stop them from finishing out their set with just as much enthusiasm. They just released a new EP-"Heartaches and Hand grenades" which is superb. Orchi Bort was up next, and finally I was able to catch their entire set for once. Midway through their first song I smelled what to my nose had the odor of Rubbing Alcohol. This was very very strong, and almost made me want to leave, when suddenly a gust of flame shot out of a doorway next to where the band was performing. Sitting crouched in the door way was a guy with rags wrapped around his hand who was spitting fire at random intervals. Rather different. Orchi Bort seemed to get the crowd going, as evidenced by the bruises I had down my side from the moshers. I'm really surprised more damage didn't occur to the house, as some of the attendees were really intense. At one point the singer from OB threw what looked like meat into the crowd....at least that's what it appeared to be to my eyes. Meat+Carpet+Fire=a different live show but not as cool as it could have been. I appreciate the efforts from a band to have a little bit of theatrics in their performance, but this time it just wasn't that great.
