Due to the misprinted time on our tickets we made our way inside the Roseland Theater midway through the first bands set. I couldn't figure out the name of this band, nor did I really care. To be honest they sucked. Suuuucked. At one point they brought up some girl on stage who stood their and did a little dance like she was a stripper. My theory is that this was to try to distract the crowd from how lame the band was. (It turned out that Hot Potty is the side project of Bad Religions drummer and someone from Pulley. So? They were still not that great.) Portland's own Handgun Bravado was the second band of the evening, and they were decent. Nothing standout, but I'd probably go see them again in a smaller venue. They played pretty basic punk type stuff, nothing I hadn't heard before. The Casualties were next, and even though I'm not a huge Casualties fan they didn't fail to impress me. They really got the crowd going, and the view of the whole floor with the pit raging was very fun to watch from the Roseland's balcony. They played a nice long set, that unfortunately got a little old towards the end, but overall they played their hearts out and got the kids good and excited for Bad Religion. It'd been an insanely long time since BR had played in Portland, and this was my first chance to see them live, so when BR finally took the stage I made my way down to the floor to take part in the fun, and I slightly regret it. Sure, when you're up in the balcony you don't get to dance and push people, but you get to see the entire stage and don't have to worry about being jabbed in the eye by a liberty spike, or have a topless, hairy, and sweaty man push you. BR played a much longer set than I was anticipating, and were more entertaining live than I was expecting as well. I didn't foresee the humor that they dispensed between songs, or know that they didn't do encores, so they just played longer. All in all the night was great fun, and I saw a ton of you local Bendites at this show.
