Ok, here's a short review! I showed up late for Syris, but the two songs I heard were really really great. Female fronted metal/hardrock, extremely well played. I look forward to seeing them play again. Next up were The Suspenders, and I hate to say it but they just sounded bad tonight. Maybe it was sound problems, maybe the lead singer was having an off night, I dunno. Regardless of the problem I know I've seen this street punk band put on way better shows before. To Each His Own was the third and final band of the evening, and they were metal. And damn, I liked it. Good stuff, including some great commentary from the band members about kids and drinking. Overall a nice evening of metal tinged rock & roll at the Bend Community Center.
Tonight's show at the Domino Room here in Bend got off to a shaky start that unfortunately seemed to color the events for the rest of the evening. After a huge (huge=hour and a half) delay at the beginning of the show Salem's Academy started their set. They have alot of potential but I wasn't too impressed with their vocals. They played a short set, and then after yet another long wait the second band of the evening, Orchi Bort, began their set. They'd set up their gear with a separate PA system in the upstairs part of the Domino Room. The crowd was very receptive to their set, and I could actually see the floor above me shaking from the crowd dancing when I was downstairs. Their vocals also didn't sound too great to my ears tonight, but musically they continue to improve, and if nothing else put on an extremely energetic stage show. The next band to set up was the always great Compact 56. I tend to look forwards to seeing Compact play, every performance I've seen from them has been super energetic and a ton of fun to watch. Unfotunately, sound problems plagued their set, and after only a couple of songs the speakers they were using blew out. It was requested that the PA system that Orchi Bort used be substituted for the remainder of Compact's set and the remaining bands. Unfortunately only the final band: Morse Code Heartbeat was allowed to use their gear. Morse Code Heartbeat put on a decent set. Hardcore/indie stuff that kept the energy level high. Overall this should could have been much better. Hopefully we'll get Compact back down this way again soon for a full set.
