_3/15/03-Crimes of Ambition, The Ginas, The Adequits, The Go Downs
[Players, Bend]
_

Ahh, girls. Ahh, music. Ahh, girls who make music. Tonights show at Players bar here in Bend featured nothing but female fronted acts from across the state. The line up consisted of Bend's own The Ginas, The Go Downs from Portland, Eugene's Crimes Of Ambition, and The Adequits who hail from Corvalis. The Go Gowns started the night out, and the got things off to a rocking start. The phrase "got things off" is apt to describe their brand of music, as many of their lyrics involve just that. The four piece proceeded to kick ass in a short but sweet set that had more than a few people on the floor even though it was still early in the evening. Next up were The Adequits, and I'm sorry to say that I missed the majority of their set while I was out doing my duties as the sober guy. I heard nothing but praise for their set however, and I look forwards to catching them again sometime. Local ladies The Ginas (and it's the Gee-na's, not the Gy-na's) were next in the set list and they again put on a killer set. It's great to see newer bands making marked progress from show to show. We need to see more girls in our scene stepping up to the plate and letting their voices be heard. The Ginas brand of punk rock was well received by the crowd that night, who responded with enthusiastic applause and shouts of "mommycore!" from one attendee. Crimes Of Ambition was the final band of the evening, and they provided a fitting rock n' roll end cap to the night. Their drummer was incredible, and their set was one of the best ones I've seen in recent memory. (I was sadly informed that they broke up shortly after playing this show. Very Unfortunate.) Overall the night was extremely enjoyable, and I'm proud to have helped out in a small way. With any luck we'll see another female oriented show within the next couple of months, this time an all ages one so everyone can come check out some of the incredible female artists our state is home to.
